Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Toast

When it comes to comfort food, simple is best.
This is an ode to toast.

Essentially toast is just bread,
yet...
Everything just seems to be better on toast.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Internet Menagerie

1
Now that I'm no longer a full time art history student, I no longer spend my days sifting through countless databases and archives looking for images and primary sources.
Needless to say, this is the greatest thing I've seen on the internet in ages.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Being an Internet Superstar

So today, something weird kind of happened...
I became an internet superstar.

While superstar might be a bit of an exaggeration; I thought I was just posting another picture on my tumblr... but somehow the Tumblr Radar gang got a hold of it, and I ended up on the dashboard.
Not only was I on the dashboard, but as part of the "Tumblr Radar," I (my blog of inspirational images) was in the same company as NPR Music, The Daily, and Kickstarter.

Anyhow, I went from 36 followers to 1,127 followers in less than a couple hours.
Talk about "things that are awesome."

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Oven Truck

Food Trucks are quite the culinary trend right now.
Personally, I'm not crazy about them, because I'm not exactly graceful and normally have trouble balancing both my lunch and standing at the same time.
I do, however, love the affordable options for gourmet food that they offer.

When Fast Company posted this article about Del Popolo from San Francisco, I was immediately intrigued by the stunning simple design but complex process of this west coast food truck. The actual truck has the look of a Brooklyn boutique restaurant, and the food looks absolutely farm fresh.

While I can't even imagine how difficult it would be to eat such a lovely pizza standing up, I would certainly be a customer for take out.
Now, to remember this for the next time I'm in San Francisco....

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: City Geometries

Photos by Me

Cities are really amazing places. There are so many people, so many things; all in all, a whole lot of energy confined to the same space at once.

I always find it awe inspiring to find a moment of serenity in cities.
Lately, I've been really inspired by the geometric lines in these quiet city moments.

The top picture is of TV antennas in Lisbon and the second picture is on the Williamsburg Bridge in New York. They're totally different places and very different cities, but they both have these wonderful serene moments. I think between the stark blue of the Portuguese sky and the hazy grey of New York, these pictures also embody my anticipation of the coming season change into fall.

While you'll never hear me complain about a summer day in Portugal (or anywhere for that matter), I'm definitely ready and looking forward to a heathered New York fall.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Berry Season

1

As much as I am not a foodie, I do love seasonal produce.
My favorite season is Berry Season.
Though it normally lasts no longer than a split second, this year, it seems to go on for ages. I'm certainly not complaining. It's such a luxury to be able to eat berries for breakfast, snacks and dessert. Going back to apples as my fruit of choice will certainly be less than appealing after this summer.
In the past 4 days I've eaten 2 pounds of strawberries alone!

It's definitely gluttony on a godly level!

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Fireworks

photographs by me

Nothing says Summer, or at least American Summer, like fireworks.

They're loud, they're bright, they're festive-- they're everything America wants to be in one explosive bang after another.

I love fireworks.
They are awesome....clearly.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Knoxville Tunes

I got turned onto Yung Life, through yvynyl.

They're a really cool band out of Knoxville, TN. You can grab the album on their bandcamp, and it is definitely worth it. It's not every day you find a band that's perfect for summer barbecues and chilling at home on rainy days.

This video is of the 2nd track on the album and features clips from Jim Jarmusch's "Mystery Train."

If this doesn't pluck at your heartstrings, what will?

p.s. yvynyl is a totally awesome music blog. if you want to stay ahead in the indie rock/dream pop world, he's your guy.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday : Rocks in Museums

Things-That-Are-Awesome-Thursday, or every day, is Rocks in Museums. It sounds boring (i.e. "who wants to go look at rocks all day,") and is a little out of left field, but when you actually take the time to look, museums have some totally amazing rocks.

They have crazy variated and interesting forms and vary between the most neutral of neutral colors and most supernatural bold colors.

With the right eye, they're more than inspiring. They definitely aren't your roadside gravel.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Sale Season

I think it's only fair to state the obvious and throw out how wonderful sale season truly is.
It comes only twice a year, just as the seasons change, and offers just the right prices for the pieces you've been dreaming of all season.

Another thing-that-would-be-awesome, would be to be able to afford the entirety of my sale wish list.
But I think it's safe to say, that simply won't be happening.... but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Saturn Dance

This video by Sander van den Berg is absolutely stunning. It only features real footage from Space, and focuses on Saturn's rings.

The way the music pairs with the images, it's almost like ballet.
Mind- Blowing, if you ask me.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Jackets

It's officially been Spring for two days. It's felt like Spring for two weeks.
Nothing gets you through the ups and downs of spring like a great jacket.

live in Jackets. I like the structure they give to flowy dresses, the slightly masculine feel, and the seemingly endless variety.

This might be a bit of a dream assortment, but a little dreaming never hurts.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday : Ghostly International

Last Friday I found my way up to New York for a show at the Bowery featuring Matthew Dear and Blondes. I knew it was going to be awesome, but I had no idea it was going to be that awesome.
The venue was quaint, the musicians were super cute, the crowd was all foreign, the drinks were cheap, and most importantly, the music was stellar.

Ghostly International is a record label that puts out music that is all about having fun.
What more could you want?

Check out some of their videos on vimeo.

Things-That-Are-Awesome Thursday: Jellyfish

So I want to start a new feature:

Things-That-Are-Awesome Thursday.

Things that will be included are:

things that are awesome
things that are awesome and design related
things that are awesome and not design related

Basically, every Thursday I'll give you a little insight into what I'm really into that week.

This week is Jellyfish.

I don't think I need to say much about this.

I'd just like to remind you that Jellyfish don't have brains or hearts, and they're still awesome.

Happy Thursday!
It's Friday tomorrow.
