This is a dream loft.

It actually exists (and on the Upper West Side), but it looks like something more out of an imagination or set design than a real life residence.

Between the floor to ceiling windows, simple-yet-modern furniture, oversized fireplace and museum-quality artworks, it's not easy to discern which design component really makes this apartment so stunning.

The ceiling really ties the whole space together. With the expressionist brushstrokes on a mural scale, the painted ceiling, and the way it is juxtaposed against crisp white architecture, makes the whole space  come to life.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Internet Menagerie

Now that I'm no longer a full time art history student, I no longer spend my days sifting through countless databases and archives looking for images and primary sources.

Today, however, I landed on the "Classic Illustrated Zoologies and Related Works 1550-1900" database on the New York Public Library.

Needless to say, this is the greatest thing I've seen on the internet in ages.

Things That Are Awesome Thursday: Being an Internet Superstar

So today, something weird kind of happened...

I became an internet superstar.

While superstar might be a bit of an exaggeration; I thought I was just posting another picture on my tumblr... but somehow the Tumblr Radar gang got a hold of it, and I ended up on the dashboard.

Not only was I on the dashboard, but as part of the "Tumblr Radar," I (my blog of inspirational images) was in the same company as NPR Music, The Daily, and Kickstarter.

Anyhow, I went from 36 followers to 1,127 followers in less than a couple hours.

Talk about "things that are awesome."

Collages get a bad rap. Yeah, they're a big part of the elementary-school art curiculum, but there's really nothing elementary about them. They require a tremendous amount of skill. To have a great collage, you need to mix perspective, scale, and imagination, on top of the standard rules of composition. To make it even just a bit harder, you have to use mostly found materials.

It's just harder than it sounds.

Anyhow, I stumbled across these collages by Kylea Borges today. I'm smitten. They're modern, yet nostalgic and keep your interest for hours. I love the play of geometric lines with the naturalistic photos. They're almost otherworldly.

These collages are just stunning.

Garden of Heavenly Dresses

I've always been more interested in contemporary art. But there is something about "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Bosch that is, and always will be, unparalleled. It was my favorite painting in art history books, and after stumbling upon it at the Prado in Madrid, it will always be my favorite painting.

Enter: Carven

The Parisian powerhouse can do no wrong in my book. I've always been smitten with their perfectly tailored silhouettes, slightly feminine details, and the most incredible materials. But this dress goes above and beyond anything they have done before. 

They made my favorite painting into a dress. In a phrase, "I Die!" (and not even ironically, I'm serious about this.) I love how the colors are altered to fit the fall season and the print is warped and twisted to fit the silhouette of the dress. This dress is everything a printed dress should be.

 It's clearly out of my price range.

I can compare pieces from Carven to MONTHS of rent.

But... this dress will have me splurging.

They say you should wear what makes you happy.

Nothing makes me happier than incredible art and beautiful dresses.
